Gregg Araki's "Ka-Boom!"

Easily the weirdest/possibly worst? movie we've watched this year. Just sayin'.

Kab00m is a bisexual love-fest of a science fiction piece directed by New Queer's own Gregg Araki. The film is centered around multiple sexual breakthroughs for numerous college students and a mysterious cult that dons various animal masks. We're not going to spoil anything, but we will offer you the WikiPedia link for the more curious folks out there. We're in understanding that opinions are simply opinions, and you could absolutely love this movie, but know this! -- Kaboom sports the worst ending that we've seen this year, if not possibly ever. The first half of the movie garners an acceptable 'B-' from us, however.

A couple of reviews here, just to set the tone a bit :

"All that's truly strange here though is that Araki gets so few jolts or laughs from this hodge-podge of genres."
- Kirk Honeycutt, Hollywood Reporter

"A delirious, demented cross between Donnie Darko and Twin Peaks with an undeniably handsome cast and a good deal of film-making skill. Don't expect it to make a lot of sense but just enjoy the wild trip."

- Caroline Jowett, Daily Express

"Gregg Araki likes to call his new film Kaboom, "a bisexual 'Twin Peaks' in college." But it's more like a hipster take on Scooby Doo with a lot of indiscriminate sex thrown in."

- Beth Accomando, KPBS.org

Can't complain too much however -- This movie did introduce us to the ever-so-stunning Juno Temple.

Check out what other film she's working on for 2012...
